However, before deciding whether you need those outdated dual hours and endorsements, consider how retrievable your current logbook is. As a certified pilot, your last 8710 filing is a reliable record of your flight hours. If you're still a student pilot, there may be practical reasons to redo the logbook for your DPE (Designated Pilot Examiner). The extent of re-creation depends on when and why it's being done. I've known pilots who recreated their logbooks for specific purposes, such as re-endorsing complex ratings with a CFI (Certified Flight Instructor), but beyond that, it can be excessive. An instructor's endorsement kit only verifies what the instructor did, nothing more.
